Manipuri actress assaulted in public
Just when the whole country is living in the clout of anger and anguish over the Delhi gangrape case, a young actress in Manipur was allegedly assaulted in public view and in the presence of security personnel at Chandel town in the state, reports said on Friday.
Actress Momoko was hosting a fund-raising entertainment show at Chandel town's Maha Union Ground when leader of the once-banned National Socialist Council of Nagaland (IM), Livingstone Anal went to the podium and assaulted the actress on Monday.
Livingstone reportedly also fired several rounds and shot at an actor, who tried to intervene and help the girl, reports said.
"Livingstone was repeatedly touching me, he was touching my body...pulled my hair. I warned him, even mother warned him," said Momoko.
"He threw me on the ground and kicked me repeatedly. He had also hit me in my left eye," she said.
According to reports, security personnel were present at the venue when the incident took place.
"The police did nothing, army and Assam Rifles did nothing...the audience did nothing. They kept watching as if they were watching a cinema," the victim said.
"Ceasefire rules prohibit armed militant groups from moving around with arms, but across the region they violate this with impunity," NDTV reported.
Demanding action, large number of people marched in Imphal to Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh's office on Thursday.
State Home Minister Gaikhangam has promised action but Livingstone is yet to be arrested.
