UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi today launched 'Dilli Annashree Yojana', a food security programme in the Capital.
A monthly cash subsidy of Rs 600 will be transferred directly into the bank accounts of seniormost female members of two lakh poor families under this Delhi government programme.
Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, UID chief Nandan Nilekani and Delhi power minister Haroon Yusuf were in attendance at the function.
On the occasion, the Congress chief said the Food Security Bill will be brought in Parliament soon.
Ms Gandhi said the 'Direct benefits transfer scheme' of the Union government will make sure that the money meant for beneficiaries reach the people concerned without any delay.
"The cash transfer scheme has been brought in to have a balanced development," she said.
