Eleven policemen on election duty in Gujarat die in road mishap

At least eleven policemen including six women constables have died when their van fell into an open well near Sapoi village in Dahod district of Gujarat on late Friday evening.
The mishap took place in the evening when the driver of the van lost control and the vehicle sped towards the fields before plunging into the well.
According to media reports, the driver suffered heart attack, lost control of the steering and the vehicle slipped into a well when they were returning from Jhalod to district police headquarters in Dahod after an election duty.
Apart from taking out the bodies of the dead, the injured policemen were rushed to nearby hospitals.
They were rendered first aid while the critically injured were referred to other speciality hospitals for further treatment.
A huge crowd of locals gathered near the well and they were seen lending a helping hand in the rescue operations.
Reportedly, several policemen supposed to be in the vehicle are still missing and search operations are on.
