The two-day first all-India Konkani dance competition, 'Yaya Ind-Ya Mayaya' will be held in Mangalore in May 2013.
Addressing a joint news conference here today, convener, organsing committee Eric Ozario and Jogotik Konkanni Songhotton (JKS) president Tomazinho Cardozo said that the competition is organised by four leading Konkani organisations.
The contestants can be of any language, region or religion but they will have to dance on Konkani beats, they said.
The contest is open for both boys and girls between the age of 15 and 35, and it will be held in two categories -- group and duet.
The auditions for the contest will be held at seven centres in four states, namely, Goa, Mumbai, Bangalore, Honnavar, Kasaragod, Udipi and Mangalore.
The auditions will be held in January/ February, while the semi finals and finals will be on May 18 and 19, 2013, respectively, at Kalaangann in Mangalore, they said.
On the selection process, they said two best dancers in each category (2 duet and 2 group) from each audition centre will qualify for semifinals. Of that, five top teams from both the categories will be selected to move to the final round.
In the final round, the winners will be decided, they said and informed that prizes worth Rs five lakhs will be awarded. The audition in Goa will be held on December 16 at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, they added.
