The Ministry of Tourism has undertaken a multi-pronged strategy focusing on the tourism potential of the northeastern region, including religious spots, through intensified media campaign.
Tourism ministry officials here today stated that the region had been the theme of the India Pavilion at the South Asian Travel and Tourism Exchange (SATTE) organized annually in New Delhi for the past few years and as part of the promotion of tourism, publicity material produced and distributed widely through India-tourism offices overseas.
The officials said besides eco-tourism, the ministry had targeted major religious tourism places in the northeastern states to showcase the region's richness that included Tripura Sundari Temple of Tripura, Matri Mandir Shillong of Meghalaya, Baptist Church of Mizoram and Catholic Cathedral in Kohima of Nagaland
