The 13-km-long road connecting world famous ski resort of Gulmarg with Srinagar was again put through after more than one and half a feet snow was cleared early this morning.
However, vehicles with 4x4 engine system or anti-ski chains, were being allowed to ply on the hilly road.
Official sources said that Gulmarg received more than 18 inches of snowfall since yesterday, forcing authorities to suspend the traffic on 13-km-long Tangmarg to ski resort road last evening.
The road was also slippery and it was decided not to take any chance and stop vehicular traffic, they said.
However, early this morning a number of snow clearance machines were put into service to connect the famed ski resort, a major attraction of tourists, particularly skiers and adventure lovers, from across the globe.
The snow has been cleared and the road to Gulmarg was through, they said.
Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Aamir Ali in the office of Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, said the Gulmarg-Tangmarg road has been re-opened for vehicular traffic today.
But, he said, only vehicles with 4x4 system or anti-skid chains fitted on tyres are being allowed between Tangmarg and Gulmarg since the road is hilly and slippery.
