Stray rhino kills cows in Assam
Assam's famous one-horned rhino today became the cause of terror for people in Biswanath Chariali in the northern part of the state.
A stray rhino, believed to have wandered out of Kaziranga National Park (KNP), roamed in the fields in the areas since dawn.
The rhino attacked and killed at least four cows grazing in the fields and proved futile all attempts to chase it away.
The forest department personnel fired in the air and burst crackers to chase away the rhino from human habitation, but the scared animal took refuge in a sugarcane grove.
The grove has been surrounded by forest personnel and locals to ensure that the rhino does not enter the adjoining villages.
The rhino is suspected to have reached the area from the nearby forests, which are attached to the KNP but not included in the original core area.
