India's main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday said the government should hang Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru on Thursday.
Pertinently, Dec 13 is the eleventh anniversary of the terror attack on the Parliament.
Speaking to reporters here, BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said: "In case the government hangs Afzal Guru on December 13 itself then there cannot be anything better to pay homage to the martyrs of the attack on the Parliament."
"It (government) should hang the attacker of the Parliament during the session of the House," he said.
Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on Monday said he will see the files related to mercy petition of Guru after the Winter Session of the Parliament.
"Not only Afzal Guru's, I have seven files to see," Shinde told media here.
"I will see the files after the Parliament Session," he said.
Pertinently, the ongoing Winter Session of the Parliament will end on Dec 20.
Mohammad Afzal, or Afzal Guru, was convicted of conspiracy in the December 2001 attack on Parliament and was sentenced to death by the Supreme Court in 2004. Six security personnel were killed in the attack along with five terrorists.
