Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav has stressed the need for encouraging and rehabilitating disabled persons and providing them opportunities to make progress in every sphere of life.
The Governor was distributing prizes to winners of National Special Olympics here yesterday. He said that such competitions should be held in villages and backward areas also, an official release said.
Mr Yadav said that such competitions will increase awareness of disabled children towards sports and education. They will also fill them with renewed energy.
The function was presided over by Water Resources and Environment Minister Jayant Malaiya.
The competition was organised by Special Olympics India, Madhya Pradesh from December 3. The Governor gave away overall champions trophy to Maharashtra, best dress-up trophy to Madhya Pradesh and best discipline trophy to the team from Gujarat. Special Olympics Association's National Director Ali Kazmi and international disabled player master Abhishek Dube were specially present on the occasion.
Mr Malaiya said that the objective of Special Olympics is to provide opportunity to disabled persons to display their physical and mental abilities and give them an honourable status in society.
