Jairam Ramesh raps Mamata Banerjee
Union rural development minister Jairam Ramesh on Saturday took on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee saying that despite the change in power in the state, signs of development still eluded it.
Rapping the former ally of the Congress party that leads the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) coalition at the Centre, Ramesh said the Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief was not a good administrator.
"Mamataji is a good political leader but she is not a good administrator. She claims that the Centre has not given any financial assistance to West Bengal but it not true," Ramesh said at a Congress meeting in the erstwhile Maoist stronghold of 'Jangalmahal'.
"I am sorry to say though political change has come in West Bengal, it has not been accompanied by development," he added, urging party workers to campaign vigorously for the coming panchayat elections.
Ties between the TMC and the Congress had soured over economic reforms mooted by the latter, which resulted in Banerjee's party walking out of the UPA.
