District police today claimed to have solved the blind murder case of a woman whose body was found near Bhagora crossing on the Hoshiarpur-Chandigarh road near Mahilpur two days ago.
Terming it as a case of honour killing, police said the parents had got their daughter killed to save their family from disrepute.
Talking to media persons here this evening, Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill, SSP, Hoshiarpur, said the body of Manpreet Kaur (25), daughter of Kapur Singh of Subhanpur village, was found near Bhagora crossing on December 6 morning. Her scooter was also found nearby.
Police arrested Kapur Singh, his wife Balwinder Kaur along with two others and recovered Rs 1.50 lakh in cash, the murder weapon, a car, the deceased's mobile, and traces of her burnt clothes from them. Another accomplice Gurinder Singh was absconding.
According to police, during investigation it emerged that Manpreet, a Saini by caste, wanted to marry Sandeep Kumar, who belonged to the Scheduled Caste community which was being opposed by her family.
On December 5, the parents upset at Manpreet's decision to leave the house called one Satnam Singh to their house.
Enraged over her decision, Satnam hit a wedge on her head killing her. He then took the body in the car to Bhagora village and his driver Gurinder Singh followed him on Manpreet's scooter where they disposed the body and scooter.
All the accused have confessed their involvement in the crime and would be produced in court, Dr Singh Gill said.
