The Government was doing everything possible to improve the numbers and standard of Anganwadi Centres in the country, the Lok Sabha was informed today.
Minister of Women and Child Development Krishna Tirath said during Question Hour that the sum to start an Anganwadi Centre has been increased from Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000. And money for various other Anganwadi-related works has also been raised considerably.
On being asked what the Government was doing to provide Anganwadi facilities in far-flung araes of the country and whether an Anganwadi could be opened in less populated areas, Ms Tirath said states were free to decide where they want an Anganwadi.
''An Anganwadi Centre would be provided even for 12-15 children,'' the minister said.
