Lakhs of followers of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar today paid floral tributes to their beloved leader on the occasion of his 56th 'Mahaparinirvan Divas' (Death anniversary) Ambedkar) at Chaitya Bhoomi at the historic Shivaji Park maidan in north-central Mumbai.

Former Deputy Chief Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar along with state party unit president Madhukar Pichad were among those who paid floral tributes to Dr Ambedkar's statue this morning at Chaitya Bhoomi.

Speaking to mediapersons, Mr Pawar said "we welcome the decision of the Central government about allocation of Indu Mill land to build Ambedkar's memorial at the site".

'It is an effort of all Dr Ambedkar followers and nobody should try to get credit for it.' Mr R Ambedkar, nephew of Dr Ambedkar, said the whole credit goes to Dalit people and followers of Ambedkar. "we do not want any credit but now I will pursue the government for speedy construction of Ambedkar Smarak at the site', he assured.

Thousands of people arrived from all over the country at Dadar station yesterday, a day before Mahaparinirvan Din.

More than 10 lakh people are expected to visit Chaityabhoomi near Shivaji Park to pay homage to Babasaheb Ambedkar on his death anniversary.

Central Railway has made arrangements of running more local trains to clear heavy rush of people.
