As many as 17,000 polling booths in Gujarat are vulnerable to disturbance and they have been dubbed as 'critical' by the Election Commission.
According to Chief Electoral Officer Anita Karwal, the commission has identified 17,029 polling booths in the state as critical. To ensure free and fair election at these booths, the commission has arranged for video shooting of the polling, which will be webcast. The commission officials would monitor these booths through the webcast, she said.
Ms Karwal said the commission is all set to hold free and fair polls in the state. As many as 44,579 electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be used for the polling. All EVMs are tamper-proof, she added.
The state Assembly election are scheduled to be held in two phases. Polling for 87 seats of the first phase will be held on Decemberr 13, while polling for 95 seats of the second phase would be held on December 17. The counting of votes will be held on December 20 and process of election will be over by December 24, she added.
