Election Commission of India (ECI) has sent officials, including technical staff headed by its Secretary K N Bhar, to oversee the administrative preparation for forthcoming Assembly polls in Tripura.
Besides holding meeting with the sub-division level election officials accompanied by Chief Electoral Officer and District Magistrates yesterday, Mr Bhar imparted knowledge about checking of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to avoid any manipulation in the voting process.
More than 1000 control units and ballot units were brought out from the sealed rooms for checking and explaining about EVMs by ECI team, officials said, adding that they had also reviewed the Ongoing electoral roll preparation exercise.
Meanwhile, opposition Congress had alleged that earlier two EC observers did little or nothing to remove the existence of bogus as well as Bangladeshi voters in four districts assigned to them.
"One of them landed in controversy by calling on Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and second one did not visit his constituency Dhanpur where names of Bangladeshi voters still exist in the voters list," the opposition complained.
