Bahuguna slams BJP for 'misusing' unemployment issue to stall House
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna today criticised the opposition BJP for disrupting the Assembly proceedings on the pretext of raising the cause of 'Unemployed youth, whom the BJP had ignored during its own rule'.
Mr Bahuguna was interacting with mediapersons after the House was adjourned following the BJP demand to discuss under the rule 310, the alleged shortcomings of the Unemployment Allowance and skill development scheme launched by the government on November 9.
In reply to the media query about the Leader of the Opposition Ajay Bhatt's charges that too little was being given to too less number of youth, Mr Bahuguna clarified that under the newly-launched scheme, as many as 60,000 youth were eligible and all those who had applied were being given the allowance.
In addition, the scheme also aimed at imparting them skill training to help them stand on their feet, he added.
On the small number of people claiming the allowance so far, Mr Bahuguna said the scheme was being widely publicised and added that he would welcome BJP's help in bringing in more unemployed youth to benefit from the scheme.
He also said that depending on the financial status of the state, the scheme could be relaxed or expanded later.
