Congress demands CBI probe into seed scam, stages walkout
The Opposition Congress today staged a noisy walkout, demanding a CBI inquiry into the seed scam in which they alleged a corruption of Rs one thousand crore.
Participating in a debate on the admissibility of an adjournment motion on corruption in supply of seeds, opposition chief whip Prasad Harichandan said only a CBI probe could expose the Rs 1000 crore scam in the supply of various paddy and non-paddy certified seeds to farmers.
He also demanded that a House committee be constituted under the chairmanship of state agriculture minister Debi Prasad Mishra to probe the incident and criminal cases be initiated against the officials involved in the scam.
But the agriculture minister denied any scam and dubbed the Opposition allegations 'false and baseless. He, however, said the government had initiated a probe into the alleged irregularities in the supply of certified seeds to the farmers.
Mr Mishra claimed that the productivity had increased manifold due to various initiatives taken by the government in the state.
However, the Congress Legislators expressing displeasure over the statement of the minister walked out of the House.
