Honour killing: Akhilesh orders probe
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has ordered a magisterial probe into the alleged honour killing case in Bulandshahr district of the north Indian state, media reports said on Saturday.
Abdul Hakim, who along with his wife Mehwish had taken part in Aamir Khan's TV show Satyamev Jayate in the honour killing episode, was shot dead in Bulandshahr district.
The state government has also announced a compensation of Rs. 5 lakh to Abdul's wife, Mehwish, TV reports said.
The Uttar Pradesh police have arrested five people, including prime accused Salman, in connection to the case so far.
Hakim's wife has claimed that her husband has been killed by her family members.
Abdul Hakim, and Mehwish, eloped two years ago after marrying secretly in June 2009. Mehwish said her family was opposed to the match because Hakim was poor and belonged to the "lower" Fakir community, reports said.
"They have killed my husband, they will kill me now. I am nine months pregnant. My husband would have been alive if police protection was provided," the woman, Mehwish earlier told CNN IBN channel.
