Afghan, ISAF forces detain Haqqani local leader
Afghan and NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) arrested a local leader of the Haqqani network, the military wing of Taliban outift, in Logar province 60 km south of Afghan capital Kabul on Friday, the alliance said in a statement released here.
"An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Haqqani leader in Logar province, today," the statement said, adding that the Haqqani leader acquired weapons for Haqqani fighters and directed attacks against Afghan and coalition forces throughout Muhammad Aghah district of the province.
The statement said that at the time of the arrest, the Haqqani leader was overseeing the movement of improvised explosive devices and Haqqani fighters in preparation for an attack, but it did not reveal his name.
The Haqqani network is mostly active in Kabul and eastern and southeastern provinces along the border with Pakistan's tribal areas.
Taliban militants are yet to make comment.
