The Ministry of Finance on Friday brushed off media reports that said Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Veerappa Moily met to discuss subsidy for LPG cylinders.
"Some newspapers have reported that there was a meeting between the Finance Minister, Shri P Chidambaram and the Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Shri Veerappa Moily yesterday on subsidy for LPG cylinders. It is clarified that no such meeting took place either yesterday or in the recent past," the ministry said in a statement.
Certain newspaper reports said Chidambaram and Moily had a meeting with heads of state-run oil companies in New Delhi on Thursday where the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has sought a subsidy of Rs 3,000 crore from the Finance Ministry towards raising the cap on LPG cylinders.
