Soz for empowered Panchayati Raj for better service to Jammu and Kashmir people
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee President Saif-ud-Din Soz today said empowered Panchayat Raj System would become an effective institution of service to the grass root people in the state.
"There is broader understanding between coalition partners for the empowerment of Panchayat Raj institution on the pattern of 73rd Amendment of the Constitution of India by incorporating the best provision in the state Panchayat Raj Act," Mr Soz said while addressing a meeting of Sarpanchs and Panchs at Akhnoor on city outskirts.
"Polls for the Block Development Councils were differed for a short period, for the purpose of further empowering these institutions and to provide reservation to women, SCs and other sections and the poll for BDCs and District Bodies would also be held shortly after the necessary amendments in the State Act," the former Union Minister said.
He said the issue of honorarium to Sarpanchs and Panchs has already been taken up with the central government.
The Congress stalwart said,"the purpose for entire exercise is to empower the Panchayat Raj institution so that they become effective instrument of democracy and come up to the expectations of people who enthusiastically caste their votes in large number," he said.
"In the Panchayat Elections in the state over 80 per cent voters participated which was appreciated all over," he added.
