Indefinite curfew continues in most parts of Srinagar since last evening
An indefinite curfew, imposed as a precautionary measure last evening, continued in most parts of Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
The situation was by and large peaceful since the imposition of curfew restrictions, official sources said today. Curfew restrictions were imposed following reports of clashes between two groups yesterday.
District Magistrate Srinagar Baseer Ahmad Khan has issued an order last evening imposing curfew in areas falling under police station Nowhatta, M R Gunj, Safa Kadal, Khanyar, Rainawari, Nigeen, Lal Bazar, Zadibal and Parimpora in the down town and Sher-e-Khas. He said the restrictions will continue till further orders and those who would try to defy the restriction will be dealt with strictly. He said the curfew has been imposed due to eruption of clashes between two groups at many places.
'We have apprehensions that these clashes might spread, he said adding precautionary measures were necessary. Two groups of same community clashed in Zadibal and Hawal areas in the down town.
