Ashok Gehlot making herculean efforts in making Rajasthan India's leading state
Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is making herculean efforts in making Rajasthan, affected by adverse geographical conditions, the biggest state of the country in terms of area, the leading state.
Gehlot leaves no effort in the national capital in finding a solution to the issues connected with the state. It is because of these efforts that the annual plan of Rajasthan has shown a continuous increase in its outlay and at the same time the size of 12th Five Year Plan has also increased.
Rajasthan's capital Jaipur has got the gift of metro rail, while on the other hand the Dungarpur-Ratlam rail line that has been inaugurated by UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi fulfills the dream of rail in tribal dominated Banswara in Southern Rajasthan.
Similarly, the western part of Rajasthan has also witnessed change and commercial production of oil been made possible there due to the huge oil reserves found in Barmer. The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, inaugurated this venture.
Gehlot is making continuous efforts to realise the dream of oil refinery in Barmer and requesting regularly to UPA chairperson, Prime Minister and Union Petroleum Minister to intervene in this matter so that the fortune of western Rajasthan changes with the setting up of oil refinery and the people of the state get its benefit in social, economic and employment sector.
It is only due to the efforts of the chief minister made at the union level that the people of Barmer and Jaisalmer districts are getting the potable water of Himalaya after Jodhpur. Gehlot got this ambitious project inaugurated at the hands of Sonia Gandhi in Barmer on August 30.
Likewise, success has also been achieved in getting cold wave and frost included in the natural calamity list due to Gehlot's efforts. He0 has raised this issue before the Union Home Minister in the National Development Council meeting, as a result of which the Centre has accepted this demand of the state government. Similarly the Union Government has accepted in principle the demand of additional power allocation to Rajasthan from the un-allotted quota of the Centre for the Rabi crop.
Gehlot leaves no effort in raising the issues connected with the interest of the state in the meetings held at the national level. Along with this he is always engaged in meetings central leaders during his stay in Delhi and working for finding solution to the important pending issues of the state.
He has always given highest priority to the energy sector in the annual plans of the state with the view to make state self reliant in energy sector. Gehlot has initiated many ambitious projects in the power sector specially the Super Critical Projects in the government and the private sector.
He has made every possible effort for long-term coal linkages and allotment of coal blocks for these projects and has also directed the Energy Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh to remain in constant contact with the Union Coal and Union Environment Minister. He has also played an important role in getting the environmental sanctions and allotment of coal blocks and coal linkages and still continuing with his efforts in getting sanctions for the future. Besides efforts are also underway at the Central level for proposed nuclear power station in the tribal dominated Banswara in the state. The Union Government has given its approval in principle for this ambitious project.
Likewise, keeping in view the huge potential of solar, wind and bio-mass in the state, the chief minister has made special efforts at the national level for making the state a solar energy hub, as a result of which the Government of India has given priority to Rajasthan under Rajiv Gandhi Solar Mission and allotted the targets. It is due to the efforts of Gehlot that solar parks are being developed in Jodhpur-Barmer areas in the state.
Efforts of the chief minister have also speed up the work of AIIMS and IIT in Jodhpur. Similarly his efforts made for IIM in Udaipur, Central University in Ajmer, IIIT in Kota and NIFT in Jodhpur are bearing results. Along with this Shri Gehlot's initiative for expansion of rail network and national highways in the state are also showing results.
Gehlot is constantly putting pressure on the Centre for the solution of the biggest problem of Rajasthan, the drinking water. He has raised this issue emphatically before the Deputy Chairman Dr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia and the members of the Planning Commission in the meetings held for discussion of annual plan, as a result of which the Planning Commission has accepted in principle about providing additional Central assistance for acute crisis areas.
The Central Government has praised the Flagship Schemes being implemented in the state under the leadership of Shri Gehlot, specially the scheme of Free Medicine For All, which the Union Government is also considering to implement for its employees. Before this the Right to Information Act enacted during his first tenure was implemented in the whole country. Similarly the initiative to provide 'Pucca Houses' to the people living below the poverty line by taking loan of Rs. 3400 crores has also been appreciated by all.
Gehlot played an important role in the success of 10th Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas held in Jaipur in the beginning of the year. The guests who came to Jaipur from country and abroad enjoyed the multi-colored culture of Rajasthan. Similarly Rajasthan played the role of a partner state in the International Trade Fair held at Pragati Maidan in Delhi in the last few years, in which the Chief Minister himself remained present.
The echo of Gehlot's simplicity, Gandhian thinking, farsightedness, dynamic leadership, human sensibility and awareness is not only felt at the central level, but also in foreign countries. When Gehlot went to America to participate in the Pravasi Conference organised by Non-Resident Indians in New York, he impressed all through his simplicity and multi-dimensional personality.
