Boating in Saurashtra to cast votes

There are seven places in Saurashtra region where the voters will have to use boats to reach polling booths on the polling day.

According to Election Commission sources, the polling in all these seven places will be held on December 13 for the first phase of polling.

There are three such places in Rajula Assembly constituency in Amreli district where voters will have to use boats. Bet Dwarka near pilgrimage town of Dwarka in Jamnagar district has four such places.

There are places in Dahod and Limkheda in tribal Gujarat where the voters will have to walk a mile to reach the polling booth as there are no motorable roads in these areas.

Meanwhile, there are 122 places in the state where telephone or mobile networks are not available. Polling booths in these places are located either in forests or remote areas where mobile towers or telephone poles do not exist.

The Election Commission officials said that wireless sets will be used by the election officials on the polling day. Tribal Narmada district has the highest 76 such areas, followed by Tapi 16,Sabrakantha 10, Vadodara 9 and Dangs 7.
