Medium pacers proved a terror on a bowler friendly wicket as six times champion Karnataka met with a humiliating 65-run defeat at the hands of Odisha in the Elite Group 'B' Ranji Trophy Encounter here today.
Resuming at 43 for 1, chasing a moderate 244 and the fourth day's play still remaining, Karnataka were bundled out for 179.
The bouncy wicket at M Chinnaswamy stadium made the batsmen hop around at the crease as spirited Odisha medium pacers led by part timer Alok Sahoo, who returned with best figures of 3/27, ran through the middle and lower order.
It was the second successive win for Odisha boys who now top their group. From this match Odisha garnered maximum six points to take its point tally to 13 from four matches while Karnataka languishes at five in as many matches.
They had earlier beat Haryana in a similar fashion. But beating Karnataka in its own den was special. Earlier they had lost all their four matches played against the hosts in the past.
Resuming at 43 for one, Karnataka were in a good position at 142 for five at lunch but the lower half failed to come up to expectations as spirited Odisha bowlers D Mohanty 2/31, B Samantry 2/28 and D Benera 2/38 joined the party with Alok to mesmerise the Karnataka bastmen.
