DMK serves notice demanding debate on 2G CAG report
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), which is a key ally of the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre, has given a notice to Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar seeking a discussion on the fresh controversy over the 2G spectrum allocation
This move of the DMK comes in the wake of claims made by former Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) official R.P. Singh.
The Centre earlier on Sunday said it is ready for a discussion in Parliament on the statement of a former CAG official on the 2G spectrum allocations issue, if key ally DMK brings forward a motion.
"If DMK wants a discussion and if DMK Parliamentary Party leader T R Baalu requests the Lok Sabha Speaker for a discussion, the Government is ready for it," Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office (PMO) V. Narayanasamy told mediapersons in Chennai.
According to reports, former CAG Director General R.P. Singh had claimed that his superiors gave him written order following which he signed on the final report giving a presumptive loss figure of Rs 1.76 lakh crore.
The DMK, which is the second-largest party in the UPA after the Congress, adds 18 Lok Sabha MPs to the ruling government.
