Maharashtra's Neral-Matheran toy train attracts visitors
A luxury compartment in the Neral-Matheran toy train in Maharashtra state is attracting a large number of visitors.
The toy train runs from Neral station to Matheran, and was resumed earlier this month.
The train remains suspended for four months from mid-June to mid-October. But this year, due to some technical problems and some pending approvals, the resumption of the service was postponed.
The General Manager of Central Railways, Subodh Jain, said: "A deluxe compartment has been joined in the train. This is for people, who prefer personalised travel like a small group. The ambience of the compartment is like the drawing room with sofas and the best part is that the travellers will not have to look out from the windows to enjoy the scenic view. We have installed a camera outside the compartment, which is connected to the television inside the compartment, through which the travellers can enjoy the view of the hills, jungles and streams, sitting inside their compartment."
The train will run six services on the section daily.
Matheran is a vehicle-free area and accessible only on foot, on horseback, or by the narrow-gauge toy train, which passed through the scenic beauty of jungles and hills.
