At least seven people were killed and 27 injured when a bomb exploded near a Muharram procession in Pakistan's Dera Ismail Khan district on Saturday, reports said.

A policeman was injured in the blast.

The bomb was planted in a garbage dump, the police said.

"It was a homemade bomb which was kept inside a pressure cooker and planted in the garbage," an official of the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was quoted as saying to The Express Tribune.

A suspect was arrested from the blast site, the police said.

The injured people were taken to the district hospital.
