Modern post office, having all the facilities has started functioning from a new building, constructed at a cost of Rs 40 lakhs over one kanals of land at Kargil, a border town in Ladakh region, which remained cut off from the rest of the state during winter months due to heavy snowfall.
Chief Postmaster General (PMG), Jammu and Kashmir circle John Samuel inaugurated the newly constructed Post Office Building of Kargil today.
The building which has been constructed at a cost of about Rs 40 lakhs has been constructed on an area of 1 kanal and is the first departmental building in the Kargil District.
Newly constructed building is a model building in the area and is very much eco friendly.
Speaking on the occasion Mr John stated that Post Office at Kargil has been provided with the state of art technology, which will provide services like Speed Post, eMO, ePost, iMO and Savings Bank.
He said Jammu and Kashmir Circle has undertaken a Post Office Transformation drive and many modernized post offices have already started functioning.
Till now twenty Post Offices have been modernised in J and K Circle.
Mr John announced that one more new Mail Van will be provided between Ladakh and Kargil to facilitate the transmission of mails.
He said the entire Ladakh region, which has 109 post offices, will come under 'Samporna Bachat Yogna' scheme, wherein each household will have a savings account either in the Post Office or in Bank.
Chief PMG requested the district administration to use the Post Offices for disbursement of scholarships to the school children.
He informed that Kargil Post Office has been brought under Project Arrow and its functioning is monitored at highest level of administration.
