BJP to announce candidates for Gujarat polls after consultation with Modi
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on Thursday expected to announce the names of the candidates who will contest next month's two-phased assembly polls in Gujarat.
The names of the candidates will be announced after consultations with Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi who has arrived in New Delhi for the purpose.
Modi is expected to attend a meeting of Central Election Committee (CEC) of BJP, party sources said.
"Chief Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national vice president and chairman of the election campaign committee Purshottam Rupala, state BJP chief RC Faldu and state BJP general secretary Bhikhubhai Dalsania will remain present at the meeting," BJP spokesperson Jagdish Bhavsar was quoted, as saying.
November 24 is the last date for filing nomination.
The BJP has reportedly finalised the names of 87 candidates for the first phase, but a final announcement would be made at the last moment, to prevent disgruntled elements from quitting the party and seeking tickets to contest from other parties.
