13-yr-old Israeli boy creates app 'alerting people about rockets from Gaza'
A 13-year-old Israeli boy has created an app that alerts people in the country about rockets being fired from Gaza, giving them extra time to run to bomb shelters.
Liron Bar, a resident of Bersheeba, came up with the idea for the app, which was created by developer Kobi Snir to provide constant reports of imminent missile attacks, known as Color Red alerts, in Israel.
Every time there is an air raid warning in the country a notification is sent to iPhone users in Hebrew, with updates on location and timing provided by a volunteer based on the government's public warning alerts, the Telegraph reports.
According to Israel Defence Forces spokeswoman Avital Leibovich, Israelis may have as little as 15 seconds to seek shelter during missile attacks.
Each time a Color Red notification is received, a sound and vibration alert begins and displays the number of seconds that have elapsed since the missile warning siren, the report said.
