As many as 29 candidates have filed their nominations for the first phase of Gujarat Assembly polls on December 13, the Election Commission stated.
According to an official release, the majority of the candidates are independents.
Paresh Bodhani of Samajvadi Party has filed his nomination from Kamrej constituency and Ashok Manvar from Jamnagar South on a Bahujan Samaj Party ticket.
Arun Gohil has filed nomination from Keshod on a Hindustan Nirman Dal ticket and Ramchandra Nair of CPI(M) from Rajkot East.
The rest are independents, most of whom have filed their papers in constituencies in Saurashtra region.
According to the release, 17 nominations were filed yesterday while 3 candidates filed their papers on November 17, when the notification for the poll process was issued. Nine candidates filed their nominations on November 19. The last date for the filing of nominations is November 24.
Counting of votes will be taken up on December 20.
As many as 87 constituencies will go to polls in the first phase.
The notification for the second phase will be issued on November 23.
