The CPI today condemned the arrest of two young women in Maharashtra for their Facebook comment, disapproving bandh in Mumbai and elsewhere in the state after the death of Siva Sena chief Bal Thackeray on Saturday.
The Left party in a statement issued here said, "It may not be to the liking of Bal Thackeray's admirers. They could have also criticised in the Facebook or through media." "It is surprising that one Sena MP defended the arrests, claiming that law will take its own course. It is interesting to note that a Sena MP is talking about the supremacy of law. As a matter of fact there is no breach of law in the case of these two young women," the statement said.
This is a misuse of IT Act with wrong interpretation and over enthusiasm and authoritarian attitude of Police," the CPI said.
