People condemn IED blast near Imphal Airport
People in Manipur have condemned the activities of militants and expressed solidarity with victims and their families. The recent recovery of a powerful IED and a blast in Imphal was widely condemned by them.
Recently, a tribal mason was killed and another person was injured in a bomb explosion in the heart of Imphal. The deceased was identified as 40-year-old Alin Kom. The injured person was identified as Chumpa Kom. Both were residents Sagang village in Churachandpur.
Decrying the blast, a large number of people from Sagang village came down to Imphal from Churachandpur. They strongly condemned the insurgents, who frequently plant IED bombs on roadsides and in crowded areas.
"It was a big shocked for the family because it happened in public place. We strongly condemn bomb planting in crowed areas and such illegal activities. I appeal the militant not to continue in the future," said Lalpu Kom, the brother of Alin Kom.
A day prior to the blast, security personnel had recovered a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) near a road in Thoubal district.
The 3.5 kilogram IED is suspected to have been planted by insurgents to target paramilitary forces in the area.
The device spotted by a boy playing in the area, was later defused.
"This is not the first such incident. This time, militants planted the bomb in a crowded place. We feel very insecure and are even afraid of going out," said Mohammad Siraj, a local resident.
Acts of violence by the militants in Manipur have resulted in the death of many innocent people. Such acts, which cause suffering to the common people, are highly condemnable.
