At least seven people were killed and more than 20 were injured when an overhead water tank collapsed on a slum here on Monday, said reports.
The Bhopal Municipal Corporation tank collapsed around 1am when the people at the Saibaba Nagar slum were asleep. A number of shanties have been destroyed.
The cause of the collapse is yet to be ascertained.
According to reports, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced an ex-gratia of Rs one lakh each to the kin of those killed in the incident.
The injured will be treated free of cost.
Besides, Rs 25,000 each would be provided to the seriously injured persons and Rs 10,000 each to those who suffered minor injuries.
