A hardcore cadre of the anti-talk faction group of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) was killed in a gun battle with security forces in Assam's Kamrup rural district on Sunday, police said.
Acting on specific information about the militant group presence at Parabari area under Boko police station in the district along the Assam-Meghalaya border, a joint team of police and army had launched an operation in the area.
"When we reached the area, the militant group started firing on the security personnel and forced us to exchange bullets," a top police official said.
"A cadre of the outfit group was killed on spot and others managed to flee from the area and escaped into Meghalaya," police said.
Security forces recovered one 9 mm pistol, three rounds live ammunition in possession of the slain militant.
Security forces had launched search operation at the area to nab the fled militants.
