Prisoners perform play in Jalpaiguri
Authorities of the Jalpaiguri Central Correctional Home in West Bengal recently organised a play, which was performed by prison inmates.
Organising Secretary Bipul Barman said the prisoners performed a play named 'Akdin Pratidin', incorporating both songs and dances.
"I have seen many plays outside but this play by the prisoners is a different kind of its own. Many of these prisoners are very talented. It can be honed by cooperation with the outside world to take it in front of other people. Their talents should be expressed in the best way, so that after their release, they can find acceptance in the society," said Barman.
The aim of the play was to make the inmates recognize their talent, so that they can earn a living when they join the mainstream society.
The play depicted activities and the curriculum of prisoners in the jail.
"We are fortunate that we are performing in Jalpaiguri, we feel lucky to have done so. We have shown here how we prisoners spend our days, what are the activities we do and what discussions we indulge in. We have also incorporated songs into the play to make it entertaining; there are the things which we have tried to show," said a prisoner, Khitish Roy.
Prison authorities across the country have come up with several projects in a bid to improve the lives of the prisoners.
