At least 47 children were killed on Saturday when the bus in which they were travelling collided with a train in the central Egyptian province of Assiut, media reports said.
The bus was carrying 60 children who were between four and six years old.
The train hit the bus on a railway crossing in Manfalut city, reports said.
Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi has directed his ministers "to offer all the assistance to the families of the victims", state-run MENA news agency said.
According to reports, Transport Minister Rashad al-Metini and head of the state railway authority have resigned after the incident.
The children were on a trip that was organized by their nursery.
