PM concerned over fresh violence in Assam
India Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday condemned the fresh outbreak of violence in Kokrajhar and Gossaigaon towns in Assam.
The PM spoke to Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi who briefed him on the situation in the state.
The Prime Minister also talked to the Union Home Minister and asked him to extend all possible assistance to the Assam government in tackling the situation.
Fresh violence erupted in the Bodoland Territorial Autonomous Districts (BTAD) as three people were killed by miscreants in three separate incidents in Assam on Thursday, police said.
At least nine people were killed by miscreants in BTAD in the past six days.
An indefinite curfew has been imposed in Kokrajhar and Gosaigaon area on Thursday.
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had ordered to Assam police and army to take stern action against the culprits, who were involved in the recent attacks.
A top level meeting was held at Kokrajhar to review the situation in BTAD.
Gogoi said that the state government is taking all necessary steps to ensure peace and stability in the state.
