United legend Cantona wants 'ageless' Ferguson to manage Man U 'forever'
Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has said he wants manager Sir Alex Ferguson to manager the Old Trafford club forever.
Cantona has insisted such is Ferguson's stamina and enthusiasm for the job that he cannot see the day coming soon when he will step down even if he deposes Manchester City as champions next summer.
With United now clear at the top of the Premier League, Ferguson needs his players to re-establish their dominance, and Cantona is backing his former boss against Roberto Mancini's challenge.
"Alex Ferguson is young, has so much energy, so much love of the game, so many things to give, more and more and more. And I love to watch them winning things and I want Ferguson to be manager for ever," the Daily Mirror quoted Cantona, as saying.
"He's a winner, that's why he has won so many things. It's what is incredible with him, next game is like the first game of his career, and he gives you that - his passion, his love of the game, love of winning things," he added.
Asked if he would accept a chance to boss United, Cantona responded using a phrase that rekindles memories of his famous quote, "When the seagulls follow the trawler, it's because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea."
"I would say, 'United is special, of course I would do it'. Today I'm with the New York Cosmos. But if one day there is an opportunity, why not? Like diving from here to the sea, watching, speaking to the fish, octopus, crabs, journalists," he said.
