Army foils infiltration bid near LoC, losing three men: Official
Army foiled an infiltration bid near the Line of Control (LoC) in Nowgam sector in north Kashmir today, losing three soldiers, a defence ministry spokesman said.
Two infiltrators were killed, the spokesman said.
A search operation in the area continued, he said.
Lt Col J S Brar said troops guarding the LoC noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK) in Nowgam sector in wee hours today under the cover of darkness.
When challenged and asked to surrender, the militants opened fire with automatic weapons, he said.
Troops also returned fire and in the fierce encounter two militants were killed. Three soldiers also laid down their lives, he said adding the identity of the militants was being ascertained.
Lt Col Brar said search operation in the area was continuing when the reports last came in.
This was the second infiltration bid from across the border this month.
Last week troops killed four infiltrators in Keran sector.
