Uttar Pradesh to have Women powerline
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav will inaugurate the women powerline 1090 call centre as a Bhaiyya Dooj gift to "sisters of the state" tomorrow.
State Director General of Police(DGP) A C Sharma said here today that the CM will inaugurate the 1090 call center at his official residence at around 1030 hrs tomorrow.
Unlike the emergency police and fire service of dial 100 and 101, the women powerline number will not be toll-free though the service is at normal, applicable call rates.
The DGP said the new Women Power Line will keep the identity of the complaining women secret and they will never be called to any police station or any other office. Besides female police officers will attend their calls and the police department would remain in contact with the women complainant till the cases is completely resolved, he further added.
Officials said here that it is not an emergency service and secondly it will help restrict hoax calls made on the number. According to a rough estimate, only 10 per cent of the calls made to control room dial 100 service are genuine and worth taking action.
At Lucknow control room, out of on an average 1,500 calls, only 150 are worth taking cognizance.
Officals said money was not the constraint keeping the number from being toll-free as there are some technical problems involved. But if the need arose and technical problems were solved, the service could be made toll-free.
