125 Fair price shops during Allahabad Kumbh Mela
The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to open 125 fair price shops during Kumbh Mela to make available food grains and essential commodities to sadhus and devotees staying in mela area at Allahabad.
According to Food and Civil Supply department sources, a letter asking the Centre for allocation of special Kumbh quota including 5000 metric tonne wheat flour, 3100 Mt rice, 1750 Mt sugar and 6200 kilo litre of kerosene on priority basis has been sent to the Union Food ministry.
About seven lakh devotees are expected to stay in mela area during Kumbh who will be provided a special ration card for the period at Rupee one cost. These fair price shops would be providing 22 kinds of essential commodities required for daily use of devotees.
For one month period, each ration card holder will be given 20 kg flour, 15 kg rice, five kg sugar and five litre kerosene. For monitoring of this distribution system, the Food and Civil Supply department will set up a control room in mela area, sources said.
The department is also gearing up to make arrangements for availing 1800 LPG cylinders to devotees and refilling of 60,000 cylinders during this period. To ensure easy distribution of LPG cylinders with opening at least one gas agency in each sector, mela area has been divided into six zones and 14 sectors.
With instructions to complete setting up of fair price shops before December 15, Special Secretary (Food) Subhash Chandra Trivedi has deputed nodal officers at state level.
Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, Raghuraj Pratap Singh 'Raja Bhaiya' will take a tour of mela area to review preparedness after Diwali festival, sources added.
