Farmers in Maharashtra today demanded to revoke the recent increase in electricity rates by Mahavitaran.
Addressing an all-party farmers conference held at Shahu Market yard here this afternoon, Ashok Patil, executive president of Maharashtra Irrigation Federation, said farmers would not pay electricity bills with increased rates and noted that the federation members would not allow Mahavitaran employees from disconnecting electricity connections of farmers. He said both the state government and Mahavitran had assured that farmers would continue to pay the electricity bills at old rates until the matter is solved, but Mahavitran sent bills on October 12 with increased rates.
The federation protests against Mahavitran's move to issue electricity bills with increased rates, he added.
