Konark festival, an annual fete of Indian Classical dance and music, one of the biggest dance festival in the country will kick start on the sandy shores of Konark from Decemer one next.
As many as ten highly-acclaimed world renowned classical artists are scheduled to perform in the five day festival being organised jointly by the Odisha Tourism department in association with the Odisha Sangeeta Natak Academy.
State Tourism and Culture Secretary Ashok Tripathy said like last year coinciding with the Konark dance festival an international sand art festival would also be held on the Chandrabhaga beach during the period.
Altogether 30 artists, including ten international maestros, would exhibit their creations for the entertainment of the tourists.
Mr Tripathy hoped that this year the number of tourists to watch the Konark dance festival and the sand art festival would be more than last year and the restriction imposed by the state government on the foreign tourists visiting the tribal distrits would not affect the footfall.
He said last year as many as 13,000 domestic and 500 foreign tourists had vistied the both the festivals. But this time more tourists are expected as the festival has elicited good response, the world over.
