Citing the recent incidents of "atrocities" on women in Madhya Pradesh, Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly Ajay Singh today alleged that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party government failed to protect the common people in the state.
"The increasing atrocities on SC and ST are a matter of concern.
The incidents of Sagar and Raisen -- where a tribal woman was reportedly burnt alive and another woman became the victim of gang rape -- are a clear proof that the criminals do not scare of the government. People accepted that this government is unable to give protection to them," Mr Singh said in a statement here.
He said the law and order situation had deteriorated to such an extent that people lost faith in police administration and traders are announcing rewards to arrest criminals.
"On hand the government is talking about woman empowerment, on the other atrocities on women are increasing alarmingly," Mr Singh said.
