Asaram's son appears before murder probe commission

Narayan Sai, son of Sant Asaram Bapu, today appeared before Justice D K Trivedi Commission of Inquiry, probing the mysterious deaths of two boys at Asaram Ashram here in 2008.

The questioning of Narayan Sai, that began around noon, is expected to continue till late evening.

Talking to mediapersons before the questioning, Narayan Sai said it was a conspiracy to malign the image of Sant Asaram Ashram.

He said no tantrik rituals were carried out in the ashram.

The Commission, which had earlier considered issuing a warrant against the duo after their repeated failures to appear before it for questioning, today decided to grant them more time as Narayan Sai and Asaram Bapu agreed to appear before the probe Commission.

The duo had earlier urged the Commission to allow them to appear via video conference but their demand was rejected.

Dipesh Vaghela and Abhishek Vaghela, two minor boys, were found dead in the Sabarmati riverbed near Asaram Ashram on July 5 in 2008, after they went missing from the ashram at the night of July 3.

Both were studying in Asaram Ashram-run Gurukul here. While the parents of the children have maintained that the two had fallen prey to sorcery practised in the ashram, the ashram authorities have continuously denied the allegations. After a strong public outrage against the deaths, the state government had handed over investigations to CID.

The CID has named seven sadhaks of Asaram Ashram in the chargsheet, including Uday Sanghani, an ashram public relations officer, Vikas Khemka, Pankaj Saxena, Miketan Patra, Yogesh Bhati, Ajay Shah and Kaushik Vani.
