Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today visited Asian Heart Institute here and inaugurated some of its new facilities to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the medical centre.
The Prime Minister and his wife Gursharan Kaur inaugurated an orthopaedic, cosmetic and the state-of-the-art robotic and minimally-invasive surgery operation theatre and spent about an hour at the Asian Heart Hospital in Bandra-Kurla Complex.
Dr Ramakant Panda, vice chairman and managing director of the institute, had conducted a complex redo bypass surgery on the Prime Minister in January 2009.
Expressing concerns over the rising incidence of heart diseases among Indians, Dr Panda said "By 2025, 60 million Indians will be suffering from heart and cardiovascular diseases. Every third person dies of heart ailment."
