Four people have died of dengue in Assam and over 200 people have tested positive for the mosquito-borne disease, health officials said Thursday.
State Vector Borne Disease Control Programme in-charge Ramen Hazarika said four people have died of the disease so far this year and new cases were being reported from various areas.
The worst affected districts were Kamrup and Lakhimpur, said a senior official of the department.
"Health officials in all districts and subdivisions have been alerted. We are taking all precautionary measures to ensure that the disease does not spread to new areas," said Hazarika.
He said dengue was spreading in the state due to the Aedes mosquito, which was endemic to the region.
