BSE Sensex closes higher on reforms

The BSE Sensex climbed 0.42 percent on Monday, after a weekend when the government announced a bunch of economic reforms that opened India's retail, aviation and broadcast sectors to foreign investment.

The 30-share benchmark index ended 78.04 points higher at 18542.31 with 18 of its components closing in the green.

The broader 50-share National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty index ended 0.58 percent or 32.35 points higher at 5610.00 on Monday.

Retail and airline stocks surged on account of the reforms as did lenders after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced a cut in the cash reserve ratio (CRR).
